Where does the grant “ask” amount come from? Can I ask for more?

Yes, you can request more funding—but the higher your ask, the lower your chances of being awarded. We calculate the ask amount based on two key factors:
  1. Foundation History – We review the foundation’s past giving and determine their average gift size based on their 990.
  2. Program Budget – Funders usually won’t cover more than 10–20% of your program budget, as they expect income diversity. Unless a foundation specifies a standard gift size, we base your ask on the lower of the average foundation gift and 10–20% of your budget.
